AUDITION
ANNOUCEMENT

Greater
Worcester Opera will be holding auditions for its fully
staged and costumed production of
Carmen, to be
performed in English translation on
June 8-10 at Zecco Performing Arts Center (Anna Maria
College, Paxton) with an encore performance on June 20
(Eagle Hill Cultural Center, Hardwick, MA.)
Auditions for lead roles will be held on Wednesday
November 16 (starting at 7:00 PM) and Sunday,
November 20 (starting at 1:00 PM) at Briarwood Community Center,
65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester. To be considered for a lead
role audition, please email a current resume to
auditions@greaterworcesteropera.org. If you
are given an audition slot, please prepare two arias,
one of which should be in English.*see
note You may bring your own accompanist, or use our in-house
accompanist (11/16- Thomas Dawkins; 11/20- Olga Rogach) for a fee of $10. You
may be asked to read some dialogue at the audition as
well. In
addition to vocal ability, we are looking for strong
acting skills, and clear English diction.
Ensemble applicants: if you wish to be in the ensemble
(no lead role) and have already performed with GWO, no
audition is necessary- simply send an inquiry to
contact@greaterworcesteropera.org.
*note
For men auditioning for
secondary roles, an operetta or lyrical musical theatre
piece may be substituted for an operatic aria.
Rehearsals
will begin mid-April and take place in
Worcester, on Sunday, Wednesday
and Thursday evenings with a couple of Mondays.
Lead roles will be double-cast, with 2
performances for each cast. This is a no fee, no
pay production.
Note: In
cases of equal talent, casting preference will be given
to singers residing in the Central and
Western Mass. area. Still, we
encourage all interested singers to submit an audition
request.
Stage director for this production
will be Graham Christian, and music director is Jeanne
Drumm.
